The Chief Ombudsman works with his staff to help New Zealanders in their dealings with government agencies. The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. The role sits within the People Enablement team, which delivers expert HR, recruitment, health and safety advice, employment relations support, and organisational development services. As part of the People and Capability group we work alongside the Learning and Capability function to ensure our people have what they need to thrive.
Mō te tūranga - About the role
As Recruitment Advisor, you'll be the go-to person for end-to-end recruitment across the Office for the duration of this fixed term role. You will be the go-to person for hiring managers and candidates alike — guiding managers through the process, ensuring every candidate has a positive and engaging experience, and keeping things moving in a busy environment.
You will manage our Applicant Tracking System (Springboard), build relationships with agencies and providers, and contribute to making our recruitment more inclusive and reflective of te ao Māori. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role where your work will have a visible and immediate impact.
This is a fixed term role to cover for parental leave, until early February 2027.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and coaching to hiring managers across all stages of recruitment and selection
- Leading end-to-end recruitment activity: from advertising and screening through to offer documentation
- Serving as the primary point of contact for candidates, ensuring they are well-informed and engaged throughout
- Managing and developing our Applicant Tracking System (Springboard) and other recruitment tools
- Building and maintaining relationships with recruitment agencies and external providers
- Analysing recruitment data and contributing to reporting for the Senior Leadership Team
- Contributing to process improvement to make our recruitment more inclusive and reflective of te ao Māori
He kōrero mōu – About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience in an end-to-end recruitment role, ideally within the public sector
- Confidence advising and partnering with managers at all levels
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
- A genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion in recruitment
- Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems (experience with Springboard is an advantage but not required)
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience

Depending on skills and experience the salary is expected to be between $95,810 and $125,750, with the midpoint being $119,762.
This role is based in Wellington. Please note we are unable to consider 100% remote working for this role.
